The Congregational Committee agreed to the formation of a Boys' Brigade Company on 11 November 1937 under the leadership of James Nelson of the Shore Road, Greenisland. On 11 March 1938 the Company was enrolled as the 90th Belfast Company. James Nelson was Captain, with Jack Dalton, Samuel McCarthy and J Whitla as Lieutenants. Samuel McCarthy took over as Captain later that year. During the Second World War the Company closed for a time, but was re-started under Harry Scott. The Company became 1st Greenisland on 10 November 1944 and has flourished since that time.
The object of The Boys' Brigade is: The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among boys, and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self-respect, and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.
1st Greenisland Company has played a full part in Boys' Brigade activities, including Drill, Gymnastics, Badge Work, Football, and Camp. The first President's Badge winner was Donald Blair in 1973, and the first Queen's Badge winner Graham Hay in 1958.
